History of Wopereis
For over 90 years, Wopereis has been building a strong future.
1931
Hendrik Wopereis founded the company Wopereis in Mariënvelde, where he received his first assignment: producing the fencing for the local church. This laid the foundation for a company that would later grow into a versatile player in steel construction and the agricultural industry.
1967
In 1967, Wim Wopereis joined the family business, introducing a new generation and contributing to the further growth and development of Wopereis. His entry marked an important moment in the company’s history, which has since strengthened its market position.
1971
Wopereis has successfully completed the construction of its first dairy barn, specially designed to house 150 cows. This project highlights Wopereis’ expertise in agricultural construction solutions, focusing on both functionality and animal welfare.
1978
Wopereis builds the first business hall for Rotor BV in Eibergen. With this new construction, Rotor BV takes an important step in expanding their facilities, with Wopereis ensuring a high-quality and functional design that perfectly meets the company’s needs.
1978
Wopereis takes the next step in its growth ambitions and relocates to Doetinchem. This strategic move supports the further expansion of the company and offers new opportunities to better serve our customers.
1996
In 1996, Paul Stortelder took over leadership at Wopereis, ushering in a new phase of growth and development for the company.
2005
Wopereis builds its first biogas installation, highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. This innovative installation marks an important step towards environmentally friendly and energy-efficient technologies.
2006
Wopereis Machinebouw in Steenderen (formerly Machinefabriek Baltes) builds its first potato halving machine for the food processing industry. This project marks an important step in the development of specialized machines that contribute to efficiency and precision in food production.
2011
Wopereis celebrates its 80th anniversary with the opening of a new company building for Wopereis Staalbouw at Fabriekstraat 33 in Doetinchem. This milestone marks both the rich history and forward-looking growth of the company.
2021
Wopereis celebrates its 90th anniversary and has developed over the past decades into a leading partner in the agricultural sector, utility construction, and the food processing industry. The company is known for delivering high-quality custom solutions. In line with this growth and diversification, Wopereis adds Barendsen Staaltechniek from Vorden to the group, a specialist in custom stairs and railings. This expansion strengthens Wopereis’ position as a versatile player in steel construction and custom manufacturing.
2022
After celebrating Paul Stortelder’s 25th anniversary in 2021, the time has come for his son, Teun Stortelder, to take over at Wopereis. This transition brings a new generation to the helm, while the company continues its tradition of craftsmanship and innovation.
2024
In 2024, Wopereis Staalbouw completed a new company hall, specifically intended for Wopereis Barendsen. In this modern facility, custom stairs and railings will now be produced, focusing on both residential and commercial buildings. This expansion underscores Wopereis’ commitment to quality production and custom solutions in the steel construction sector.
